Getting ready to pack one up for deployment.

The Atmospheric Optics Group has, over the years, included primarily engineers, scientists, programmers, and technicians knowledgeable in the atmosphere and its measurement. It has always been a small group, ranging from about 3 to 8 members depending on the needs of the group. We are proud of all of our members, past and present. The present group includes the following individuals.

Richard Johnson (Retired)
Richard is a development engineer, and was head of our group from 1971 through 1991, and specialized in hardware development, planning and execution of extensive deployments, and planning of the research efforts. He currently works two days a week, primarily in hardware and concept development. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University, as well as course work in Physics at the Masters level, and has been with the group since 1957.

Janet Shields
Janet Shields is a development engineer, and has been in charge of the group since 1991. She specializes in program planning, concept development for algorithms, hardware systems development, calibration procedures, and analysis of field data from a scientific and engineering point of view. She has a B.S. in Physics from MIT, and a M.S. in Applied Physics from the EE department at UCSD, and has been with the group since 1971.
