The WSI’s have several features that enable the radiometric calibration. The lens and the protective dome are both shaded by the solar occultor. Since all optics are shaded, this removes most of the stray light which would normally interfere with the ability to provide accurate calibration results. The camera for the Day/Night WSI is a very low noise 16 bit digital camera, and is thermally stabilized. Some of our other systems use 12 bit digital cameras with thermal stabilization. The WSI cameras do not have auto-gain or other automatic compensations that would preclude the ability to calibrate. The electronics are also kept at reasonably cool and uniform temperatures.
