The
Day/Night WSI measures the sky radiance in approximately 1/3Ì increments
over the entire sky dome to the horizon. The measurements are made in
three narrow spectral regions centered at 450 nm, 650 nm, and 800 nm,
and a broadband visible-NIR passband. The images are 16-bit 512 x 512
images. Raw images may be processed to yield absolute radiance files,
which yield the radiance distribution over the entire sky, in absolute
energy units. Also, images are processed to determine the presence of
opaque clouds and thin clouds over the sky. These cloud data are used
to calculate cloud cover and related statistical quantities.
The Day/Night WSI systems have been developed for a variety of sponsors and a variety of applications. As a result, the data products vary somewhat from one system to another. The primary data products are:
